These are the words you hear ringing loud throughout the thousands of supporters and spectators as Junkanoo groupsââ¬â¢ approach the starting gate of what is expected to be an exciting parade. Junkanoo is celebrated in the wee hours of the morning on Boxing Day and New Yearââ¬â¢s Day. Scores of people show up from near and far to celebrate in one of the Bahamasââ¬â¢ most talked about cultural events. After waiting all year long, Boxing Day is finally here! The thought of sleep never enters my mind, as the anticipation of who will be victorious resonates in my mind throughout the night.Excitement builds, as all I could think about is the feelings of swaying to and fro while watching the groups ââ¬Å"rushâ⬠down Bay Street. Midnight is hereâ⬠¦ Let the parade begin! As I make my way through the large crowd to get to my seat, I could hear the sounds of the goatskin drums and whistles blowing. The cowbells begin to shake, and I could feel the rhythm deep within my soul. The well-toned brass section chimes in, and it is almost melodious, as the melodies and tunes all mesh together perfectly.The dancers make their way up Bay Street gyrating and moving their bodies to the rhythmic beat of the drums, cowbells, and whistles, demanding all the attention; while dressed in brightly colored costumes. The larger than life costumes adorned with bright, dazzling colors, ââ¬Å"tricksâ⬠and feathers threaten to steal the show. I find it extremely difficult to contain myself, as the various Junkanoo groups ââ¬Å"rushâ⬠past me in the stands. I can feel the feathers as they rub across my face and the music thump.The energy of the dancers and the beat of the music motivate the large crowds of supporters and spectators to start moving in their seats, or on their feet. Daylight breaks, all too soon, the parade is over. I am so excited and energized that all I could think about is the New Yearââ¬â¢s Day Junkanoo Para de. For one week I eagerly wait to hear the words ââ¬Å"they comingâ⬠being echoed throughout the stands all over again! My love for Junkanoo is overwhelming from the magnificent, ravishing colors of the costumes to the music which moves throughout every part of me and creates a sound that is too strong to resist, where it almost becomes mesmerizing!

He is an ethnologist, an evolutionarily biologists and a popular writer in science. The first time Dawkins come into the limelight and became popular was after writing his book ââ¬ËThe Selfish Geneââ¬â¢ in 1976. Around 1982, he made significant contributions toward evolution science. THE SELFISH GENE BY RICHARD DAWKINS Richard Dawkinââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËThe selfish Geneââ¬â¢ was a very popular reading and to some extent controversial on evolution. The book elaborates and goes deeper to discuss more about the theory of Williamââ¬â¢s first ever book to write ââ¬ËAdaptation and Natural Selectionââ¬â¢. This view states that evolution acts on genes and when we select some organisms or a population, this selection is normally based on the type of genes. According to his book, an organism must evolve since it is the only way of maximizing its ââ¬Ëinclusive fitnessââ¬â¢, which refers to the total number of the genes which are transmitted globally, rather than the genes passed on by a particular individual. Consequently, a population tends to learn towards ââ¬ËEvolutionarily Stable Strategyââ¬â¢. (Richard, 1990) This ââ¬Ëselfish geneââ¬â¢ came up with the term ââ¬Ëmemeââ¬â¢. ââ¬ËMeme refers to a single unit of humanââ¬â¢s culture evolution which is analogous to genes. It suggests that this is a ââ¬Ëselfishââ¬â¢ replication of human genes, and it can affect the culture of human in a totally difference sense. There is no doubt that ââ¬Ëmemeticsââ¬â¢ evoked a discussion of meme since he published his book. ââ¬ËMemeââ¬â¢ is cultural information units, which can be transferred from one mind to another. Examples of memes are tunes, clothes fashion, catch phrases, pot making or building arches. ââ¬Å"Memeââ¬â¢ is properly defined in the theory of memetic, which is comprised of information on culture in a unit theory; how evolution of culture or diffusion is blocked, how it propagates form mind to mind and the way a gene propagates from one person or from an organism to an organism. Where memes are multiple, they propagate as ââ¬Å"memeplexesââ¬â¢. Meme complexes act as cooperative groups. (Richard, 1990) A ââ¬Ëgeneââ¬â¢ on the other hand, is a region that can be located and has a sequence called ââ¬Ëgenomic sequence. This corresponds to an inheritance unit that is closely associated with regions that play a regulatory function, the regions, which are transcribed, and other regions with functional sequence. The phenotype and physical development of organisms is believed to be productivity of genes, which interact among themselves and with their environment. Genes are generally inheritance units. A gene generally defines human or organismââ¬â¢s characteristic and the functionality of potential products. Genes do not define products but rather they contain regions. Eukaryotic organisms contain regions, which do not have coding regions and are called introns. These are taken away from RNA, which acts as the messenger in a process referred to as ââ¬Ësplicingââ¬â¢. Exons are regions, which encode the products of gene. A total number of genes, which make a set, is called ââ¬Ëgenomeââ¬â¢. The genome size of an organism is usually low in prokaryotes, which come in base pairs and the geneââ¬â¢s numbers. The theorists of meme state that meme evolve through natural selection, this is similar to biological evolution of Darwin through competition, inheritance, variation and mutation. THE ROLE OF CULTURAL EVOLUTION Cultural evolution and socio-evolution fall under the umbrella called ââ¬Ësocio-cultural evolutionââ¬â¢. It describes how societies and cultures have come into being over time. Cultural theories provide us with models to enhance our understanding on the relationship between our social structure, technologies and society values; and give reasons why and how they change gradually. They change to a degree to which specific mechanisms of social change are described. (Richard 1990) Around 20th and 19th century, there were approaches, which were aimed to give models for humankind evolution. The argument is that the social development of different societies is not in the same stage. The recent approaches of the 20th century emphasize on changes, which are specific to a society as an individual and turn down social progress and directional change. Archeologists and anthropologists use modern theories as the framework of socio-cultural evolution. Sociobiology and neo-evolutionism are some of modern approaches employed to cultural evolution. Richard Dawkins, the ethnologist discovered ââ¬Ëmemeââ¬â¢. According to his book, ââ¬Å"TheSelfish Geneââ¬â¢ 1976, likened humanââ¬â¢s cultural evolution unit to a gene. His argument was that replication happens in the culture, through in a different sense. Dawkins contends that meme, which resides in the brain represents units of information and it is the replicator that controls mutation in cultural evolution of humans. This forms a pattern, which has the power to influence surroundings, that is, it can propagate and possesses causal agency. However, his theory caused a heated debate among biologists, sociologists and scientists from other disciplines. Dawkins failed to given adequate explanation about the information units replicates, in organismââ¬â¢s brain, how it can control the behaviour of a human being and finally culture. It is apparent that it was not Dawkins intention to give the theory of memetics. Comprehensively in the selfish gene, he coined the word meme in a kind of speculative spirit. In the same sense, ââ¬Ëunit of information was given different definitions by different scientists. (Richard 1990). MEME AND EDUCATION It is not entirely impossible though it is hard to debate the subject matter of the functions of emotions in education system if we are lacking the right words to sufficiently discuss the topic. This is the scenario when we reach a point of discussing the functional role of ââ¬Ëemotional intelligenceââ¬â¢ because it has got to do with the needs of our younger brothers and sisters as well as great grandchildren and become stochastically and mathematically proficient so as they can exist and fit in the competition which is characterized by technological advancement. Many educators are failing because they lack words such as ââ¬Ëeipiphinyââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëmehmeââ¬â¢ and hence do not have words, which play an important role of ââ¬Ëemotional intelligence,ââ¬â¢ and how it relates to stochastic and mathematical literacy sufficiently and appropriately address attempts that can be made. The outcome is a system of education that is believed to be failing. If the kids can experience and feel eipiphinies and MEHMES, kids will definitely love maths, and see its relevance to their lives daily. It also contributes a feeling of self-confident. The key here is to create the terms mehme and eipiphiny. Introduction of mehme and eipiphiny may have a positive effect if incorporated in the meme selection process.

The Punishment of Homosexuality in Germany As the Nazis rose to power, they constructed strict laws regarding male homosexuality for many reasons. The Nazis were primarily concerned with preserving and reproducing people of pure German blood. Consequently, in order to catalyze the purification of the German population, the Nazis sterilized those who were not fit to reproduce and forced those who were fit to procreate. The Nazis wanted all able men and women to produce and bear offspring, however homosexual males would not take part in the male role of reproduction because of their sexual orientation. As a result, many of Germanyââ¬â¢s two million male homosexuals were imprisoned and/or incinerated for their homosexual acts and desires. In order to further cultivate the population of Aryans, the Nazis tried to construct a heterosexual society by creating or revising new laws and documents that aimed to discriminate male homosexuals. This goal of discrimination was an attempt to decline the rate of male homosexuality i n order to persuade able men in becoming heterosexual and produce children to support the Volksgemeinschaft. Although female homosexuals existed in Germany, they were not targeted and discriminated against like male homosexuals. Male homosexuality posed a greater threat to the Nazis because it was considered to be a waste of procreation for men to be gay. It also posed a greater threat because it went against ââ¬Å"manââ¬â¢s nature-given positionâ⬠to woman. Male homosexuality was also far more hazardous because it posed a moral threat to the German ââ¬Å"Volkâ⬠and its morals. The Nazis goal of producing a pure bred German blood race contained problems not only with the Jews, but also with the homosexuals within the nation. The homosexuals were going against everything the Nazis wanted. Because they were homosexual, they were not able to procreate due to their sexual orientation. Along with their lack of procreating, they attacked the morals of the ââ¬Å"Volkâ⬠and degraded the nationââ¬â¢s image. They didnââ¬â¢t want to produce offspring to preserve the nation and was only concerned about their own pleasure. They also made Germans appear frail and sickening. Because of this, the Nazis had to find a way to keep homosexuals from their nation. And in order to do so, the Nazis created and revised strict laws to rid the nation of male homosexual activity to fulfill the ideals of the Volksgemeinschaft.

Just Business Report Essay
Reading the book ââ¬Å"Just Businessâ⬠by Alexander Hill, it was very interesting to go through the topic of Christian ethics for business. Looking at different scenarios that managers have to confront and it shows how nerve-wracking, heart wrenching and also guilt producing that it could be. The definition of ethics is the study of ââ¬Å"shouldâ⬠and of doing the ââ¬Å"right thing.â⬠The three main characteristics that were presented and emphasized in the Bible: God is holy. God is just. God is love. Hill also talked about integrity, fairness and compassion that mirror holiness, justice and love. I loved how Hill supports his points by having Bible verses. For example he writes the ââ¬Å"salt and lightâ⬠of the world (Matthew 5:13-16) is the third force for good. I agree with many of the points Hill says such as ââ¬Å"we cannot serve two masters at the same timeâ⬠(Matthew 6:24) and it specifies that we cannot serve both God and money. They were also ta lking about justice procedural rights that focus on fair processes in decision-making. Substantive rights are what procedural rights seek to protect. Merit links the concepts of cause and effect. Contractual justice is limited to three duties; we must not violate a negative injunction by causing harm to others, we must respect procedural justice and we must fulfill our contractual promises (Hill 46). Love is a universal word and many would consider it to be ââ¬Å"the centerpiece of Christian ethicsâ⬠(Hill 53). Love includes empathy, mercy and self-sacrifice. Empathizing with others would include by celebrating with their triumphs and shouldering their pain. Mercy is quite hard to do because it takes action on their behalf and takes initiative in forgiving. In my experience, there are times when I do have trouble forgiving people, yet God gave me the strength to forgive the person. This will probably come up more often while taking care of business. He also shows visuals such as the tables and drawings that make it easier to get the gist of what he was talking about. Part Two ââ¬â False Exits This addresses ââ¬Å"Dual Moralityâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Lawâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"Agencyâ⬠which they are known as false exits ââ¬Å"because they deposit ultimate ethical authority in human instrumentalities ââ¬â business culture, government and corporate government ââ¬â rather than in Godââ¬â¢s characterâ⬠(Hill 67). Dual morality ââ¬Å"rejects the notion that universal principles of right and wrong existâ⬠(Hill 69). It also helps me have a visual when he shows examples of CEOs and what kind of decisions they have to make and what would be the ethical thing to do. Law is another false exits, when one presumes that if an action is legal, it is still morally acceptable as well. There are times when there are many people just follow the law and assume that the law is right and the ethical way. There are flaws in the system and Hill shows a diagram in page 98, figure 6.1 illustrates the tension. Acts that are both ethical and legal Ethics ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â- Acts that are unethical but legal Law ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â- Acts that are both illegal and unethical Agency is the third false exit that talks about the problems that arises when the values of the employee diverge from those of the employer. It was intriguing to learn about the legalistic purist, the accommodating purist. These few chapters opened my eyes to see what kind of false exits that people use in the business world. Now I am aware of what people could use as false exits. Part Three ââ¬â Topics Honesty and Deception is more common in the business environment but it is quite difficult concepts to apply. Honesty ââ¬Å"builds trust, establishes community and protects the dignity of the audienceâ⬠(Hill 125), which allows partners to rely on each other and fosters community and respects each oneââ¬â¢s dignity. He also talks about deception and how justice condemns deception and it could lead to disaster and consequences. No right to hear the truth, exaggeration, and ambiguity are more deceptions that people use in the business environment. The other topics that were discussed were: Concealment and disclosure; Employer-Employee Relations; Employee Rights; Discrimination and Affirmative Action; the Environment and Property. The topic that stood out to me was the Environment because I have learned about different ethical views such as the anthropocentric view and the biocentric view 1 and 2. Hill also explains what the Role of Business is that even ââ¬Å"scripture makes it clear that our task is to responsibly steward Godââ¬â¢s creation in the hear and nowâ⬠(228) and there are times that one would have to make difficult decisions. These topics have given me a new perspective towards business. Overall, ââ¬Å"Just Business,â⬠by Alexander Hill, was an outstanding book to read especially when one is planning to go into the field of business. It was interesting to see how business runs with the combination of Christian ethics. I would highly recommend for other students to read this especially if they are looking into business. A major conflict that appears in many, if not most, groups appears to be miscommunication or lack of communication. There are several solutions available to resolve miscommunication. Each member of a team has certain strengths and skills that help resolve occurring issues. When a team is confronted with miscommunication or lack of communication, having a plan is a necessity. Lack of communication can easily lead to miscommunication in a group and cause many reoccurring issues. Certain confliction techniques can be used to not only eliminate the issue, but also understand the underlying issue at hand. Conflict and Solution Personal Strengths to Resolve Issue Creating a detailed learning team charter that involves all members allows each individual to contribute their strengths in problem solving. Generally, charters are mainly used as a tool to contact other members outside of the team environment. The other members offer their information and would be responsible to check into the team in a reasonable amount of time. This is the beginning opportunity to highlight each memberââ¬â¢s strengths and especially how willing they are to participate. Participation is one of the main behaviors that help a team strive or fail. How little or how much a person chooses to participate confides solely within them. This is especially true since individuals learn and retain information in different ways; the application of strengths can be applied in separate and unique formats in a team. The most appropriate conflict management would be Jerry Wisinskiââ¬â¢s A-E-I-O-U Model, which focuses on collaboration and what he calls positive intentionality, the assumption that other people are not trying to cause conflict (Engleberg & Wynn, 2010). After completing the charter and knowing what is expected of each member, the most appropriate method of communication would be speaking with and checking in with members outside of the group. Conflict Management Techniques Each conflict is special in its nature and requires customized care depending on the situation or context with which the problem resides. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦all managersââ¬âwhether they be supervisors, middle managers or chief executive officersââ¬âmust learn to manage conflict if they are to be effective in leading their particular organizational unitsâ⬠(DuBose & Pringle, 1989, p. 1). The idea that a problem should be ââ¬Å"managedâ⬠crops up because conflict is a known and necessary part of organizational development. Conflicts shape organizations; but why must an organization go through a difficulty or hardship in order to understand conflict management? ââ¬Å"The term ââ¬Ëmanagingââ¬â¢ implies that conflict is not inevitably destructiveâ⬠(DuBose & Pringle, 1989, p. 1). Conflicts are not unchangingly damaging because it is necessary for growth to come across a few growing pains. Organizations with good management almost always succeed and dreams of growth come into fruition when conflicts are appropriately managed and managers understand the integrality of their interpretation of conflict management and its many different techniques. The team was very natural in its ability to choose a proper technique and utilize it in order to overcome the conflict at hand. The collaboration technique was used successfully as the team was forced to put their heads together and come to a decision with regard to the conflict. The collaboration was effective due to the participantsââ¬â¢ unwavering objectivity and understanding of the conflict and how to manage it. Each party had their responsibilities laid out neatly in order to quickly and professionally get the job done. The team was highly prepared for any conflicts and managed them upon manifestation due to the highly comprehensive group. Accommodation is another technique the team productively used. Accommodation is used when the conflict is more important to the other party involved in the conflict and is treated with thoughtfulness by the other members; this technique was also successful because the team was able to ââ¬Å"pick their battlesâ⬠and strive to meet all the expectations of the team leader, and their teammates (DuBose & Pringle, 1989). Additional Conflict Management Techniques Team communication generally appears to be a conflict that exists within the members of the group. This can only be solved within the members and the willingness to strive, learn, and accomplish together as a group. It takes personal inactive and being open to otherââ¬â¢s suggestions to make communication strong and effective. Strong communication would prove to eliminate miscommunication and therefore lack of communication. Setting goals can always be a productive approach to ensuring success and keeping members focused on what needs to be accomplished, and the most effective route to complete tasks. The important balance of goal setting in groups is making sure that personal and team goals do not outweigh one another. Goals are more productive when they are shared and known with other individuals. Making, keeping, and sharing goals in the team environment are essential to success and eliminating miscommunication. In some cases where conflict is stronger than problem solving, it is necessary to seek help outside of the group. Third-party intervention occurs when a group seeks the services of an impartial outsider who has no direct connections to the group, but has the skills needed to analyze the conflict and helps resolve it (Engleberg & Wynn, 2010). In learning team environments, the instructor is the third-party intervention and has authority to make decisions as deemed necessary to help keep the team productive and functioning as a whole. Arrival of Decision The groupââ¬â¢s natural understanding of conflict management, and the team leaderââ¬â¢s fantastic ability to choose proper techniques, strengthened the teamââ¬â¢s ability to get the job done. When conflicts arose, the team effortlessly went through a decision process and effectively outlined the techniques that worked the best. The team was able to utilize all participating membersââ¬â¢ strengths to move on with the project after nipping all problems in the bud. While some issues call for more drastic measures, accommodation and collaboration was the teamââ¬â¢s two most valuable assets when managing conflict internally. Some issues require an entire modification of the organizational structure which could set back the team, and even the organization, for a very long time. Good management within the organization knows the proper way to take care of problems that arise from conflicts. Good management understands that the symptoms and the disease are two completely different things and should be handled as such. When managers ââ¬Å"settleâ⬠problems for lower-level managers, it implies that they do not fully understand the real problem and how to fix it. Symptoms are stopped once the root of the problem is remedied. Conclusion When lack of communication occurs in a group, miscommunication is often followed. Certain personal strengths, such as a willingness to strive and learn from others are important in a group setting. Creating a team charter helps eliminate the issue of miscommunication. Setting goals, being open to otherââ¬â¢s thoughts and opinions, and seeking help from outside of the group are all techniques to resolve a conflict in a group setting. Important Read This Before You Send SAT Scores to Colleges SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips No matter how stellar your transcript, no matter how mastered your extracurricular activities, no matter how lyrical your essay- no application is complete without your SAT scores. So how do you make sure your SAT scores are sent properly, at the right time, and with only the scores you are most proud of? Read on for our best advice on the decisions you'll be faced with and what to do in case something goes wrong. In this article,I'll go over the process of sending SAT scores, the ins and outs of SAT Score Choice, when to send SAT scores (and when not to!), and what to do if your scores go missing. I'll also explain the pros and cons of every option and give you my suggestion anytime there are multiple possible ways to proceed. How to Send Your SAT Scores: 2 Methods You can send your SAT scores either when you takethe test or anytime after you get your scores. We'll look at the two methods in more detail below. Method 1: Use Your Four Free Score Reports When you register for the SATand for nine days after you take the test, you can send four free score reports tocolleges and scholarship programs. However, note that you'd be doing this without first seeing your scores. Here's our advice onwhether you should send these free four SAT score reports: Pros: These four score reports are free. A dollar saved is a dollar earned! Cons:You won't know your scores before they get sent out. This means you won't be able to use SAT Score Choice to pick which scores colleges see and which they don't see (more about Score Choice in the next part of this article). Essentially, your scores will be sent out even if they aren't as strong as you'd like them to be. Recommendation:Save some money and time- use your four free score reports to send scores to colleges that want to see all your SAT scores. Note: More and more schools are allowing students to self-report their SAT/ACT scores and only require official score reports if students are accepted. If you're only applying to schools that fall into that category and wait until your acceptances to send an official score report, you'll have to default to method 2, which we'll be covering next. Method 2: Order Additional Score Reports You can alsoorder SAT score reports through your College Board account anytime after you get your scores. In your account, you can see all of your SAT test dates and scoresand choose which ones to send out. Here's our advice about whether you should send your SAT scores after you see them: Pros:You can see all your scores first, so you can select only your best scores to be sent out (again, I'll address SAT Score Choice in more detail below). Cons: It costs$12 to send a score report to a college, and each report can include a number of test scores on it. In other words, if you want to send three SAT scores to the University of Vermont and two to the University of Hawaii, you'd pay $24. (Students eligible for a fee waiver have unlimited free score reports.) Note that rush reports cost more:$31. Here are our recommendations for when to order additional SAT score reports: Send scores withyour best section results to colleges that superscore the SAT. These schools make a new composite score using your best Math, Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW), and Essayscores from any SATs you took. Send your single highest score to colleges that neither superscore norrequire all your scores,to SAT scholarship programs,andto the NCAA if you plan to playcollege sports. Can You Send Old SAT Scores? To send scores from an SAT you took more than a year ago, you must request them from the archives. Each report costs$31, and each rush report costs an additional $31. You can order old SAT scores in one of two ways (note that youcannotorder them online through your College Board account): Fill out the Archived Score Report Order Form and send it to the following address: SAT Program PO Box 7503 London, KY 40742-7503 Call the College Board at (866) 756-7346.Be aware that there is an additional $15 fee for ordering scores over the phone. Pro Tip: You might run across QA websites that tell you to simply mail or fax a copy of your printed SAT score report to colleges as a way of sending scores for free. Don't listen to these! Most colleges only look at official score reports sent directly by the College Board. You can't simply send schools a copy of your report, even if your deadline is approaching. Faxed a copy of your scores? Might as well have sent them this note. Can YouChoose Which SAT Scores to Send? You can now decide whether you want the College Board to send all your SAT scores to colleges or whether you want to use a program called Score Choice. SAT Score Choice lets you pick which scores you send to schools.You can select individual test dates, but not test sections. In other words, you pick the date of the SAT you want to send, and the College Board will send out scores from that test and that test only. Say you tookthe SATthree times, and the second time you were nursing a fever and just generally having a bad day. Score Choice lets you send only the first and third test scores to colleges- so you can go ahead and consign that second one to the dustbin of history. Score Choice also applies to SAT Subject Tests.You can pick which Subject Test score to send to your target colleges. Here are the pros and cons of the SAT Score Choice policy: Pros Score Choice is awesome for colleges that donââ¬â¢t requireall of your SAT scores. It's also perfect for colleges that superscore- you can send them the test dates that have your highest section scores. It's great forany SAT Subject Tests youââ¬â¢ve taken multiple times,since you just want colleges to get your highest score. Finally, itââ¬â¢s the best way to send your best single SAT score to scholarship programs and the NCAA. Cons You have toread your target colleges' score submission policies very carefully. Failing to send all your scores to colleges that require all of them could land your application in hot water. To make keeping track of different policies easier, check out CollegeBoard's BigFuture site, which lists the SAT score policies for hundreds of US schools. When Should YouSend YourSAT Scores? Now, let's discuss the best timing for sending SAT scores to colleges. In this section, we'll touch on how early to send your scores, when to expect scores to reach your colleges, whether to consider rush ordering your score reports, and finally what to do if you miss a deadline. Should You Send Your SAT Scores Early? The College Board claims that sending scores earlyshows colleges that you're a very interested applicant. If you first take the SAT your junior year, then, should you go ahead and send that score to colleges you're particularly interested in? It's true that some collegesdo sometimes ask to see proof that an applicant sincerely wants to go to their school; this is calleddemonstrated interest.But this is something that usually comes into play after you've turned in your full application, usually as a way to move someone up on a waitlist. Typically, sending SAT scores early does notgive you an edge. Similarly, it doesn't count as demonstrated interest.This is because if you send SAT scores to a college but havenââ¬â¢t applied there yet, the admission staff will simply save them under your name in a general file until your application shows up. And it's not only that. If you send your scores early and are planning to retake the SAT, you won't get the full benefit of Score Choice since you won't be able to compare your early score with ones from later tests you take. Save getting there early for the Harry Potter swag line. When Should SAT Scores Get to the Admissions Office? It will be no surprise to hear that official SAT score reports should get to your schools by their respective application deadline.In order to figure out what this means in terms of when to send your scores, letââ¬â¢s go through the timing of everything that happens after you take the test. Step 1: The College Board Scores Your SAT Scoringusually takes two to three weeks but can take more than five weeks for the June test date. Step 2: Score Reports Are Posted Online and Processed for Sending You can access your SAT score report through your College Board account. If you registered for the four free score reports, these will be sent out to colleges about one to two weeks after your scores appearonline (if you took the SAT without Essay). If you took the SAT with Essay, your scores will be sent out about 10 days after you get them online. As soon as scores are online, you can order additional score reports from the College Board website. Step 3: Colleges Receive Your SAT Scores Most colleges receive test scores electronically through software that files your score with the rest of your application materials. Colleges themselvesselect how often to download new SAT score reports; this is usually somewhere between once per day and once per week(for example, UVA gets SAT scores daily). Remember that there will be a lag between when a college gets your scores and when it adds them to your application file. In most circumstances, the math for ordering SAT score reports goes like this: less than 1 week for ordering scores + 1 week for colleges to get and file scores = order scores at least 2weeks before the application deadline I always hedge my bets, soIââ¬â¢d advise ordering test reports at least three weeks early for safety or, even better, as soon as you're done testing and know which schools you're applying to. Your last possible test date math looks like this: 3weeks for scoring + 3 weeks for ordering tests = take your last test no later than6weeks before the application deadline Should You Rush Your SAT Score Report Order? If you are worried about beating deadlines, youcan pay extra for the College Board'srush service. Here are the pros and cons of doing so: Pros Instead of taking "a few days"to send your scores, the College Boardguarantees SAT scores will be sent out within two to four business days. Cons This service does not speed up how long it takes the College Board to score your test. It also does not speed up how long it takes for colleges to receive your scores. Remember, schools choose the timing themselves, with some getting score reports only weekly. In other words, while your scores are sent sooner, they aren't necessarily going to be seenby schools sooner. Colleges that receive score reports electronically might not view priority reports at all. The service costs $31(but you can rush reports to many schools at once). Recommendation:If your deadline is fast approaching, it might make sense to pay extra to buy yourself a little more time. Just keep in mind that colleges might not see your scores any faster if their delivery preferences arenââ¬â¢t set up for priority reports. Yes, sir- we have our very fastest messenger on it, sir. What If You Miss the Application Deadline? What happens to applications when SAT scores arrive late varies depending on each college's policy. Some schools have a hard and fast rule: late application materials disqualify that applicant. For example, theUniversity of Texasââ¬â¢s policy even overrides the guaranteed admission the school offers to any in-state students in the top 10% of their class. In short, late test scores are a big gamble- youââ¬â¢re essentially betting that your application wonââ¬â¢t be considered until further into the process and that therefore your SAT scores still have a chance to get there without issue. For example, here's whatStanford Universityââ¬â¢s admissions site warns in regard to test scores: ââ¬Å"We cannot delay the review of an application in anticipation of scores that will arrive after the deadline nor can we guarantee that late [SAT] scores will be reviewed." Meanwhile,UVA points out the followingif your SAT scores are late: ââ¬Å"There is a chance that we will have already started the [sic] review your file before those scores arrive. You should still send those scores.... There's a chance that the scores will be seen at some point in the process.â⬠Finally, some schools judge applications on a case-by-case basis.This means that an otherwise excellent application might be put aside until SAT scores arrive, while an application that is clearly not a good fit for the school will be rejected even before scores are received. How Can I Ensure That My SAT Scores Donââ¬â¢t Get Lost? A college is guaranteed to receive your SAT scores either when you select it during SAT registration or when youselect it on the College Board website while ordering additional score reports. Some university systems, such as University of California system, which has many campuses under one umbrella, share scores among campuses. In other words, if you send your SAT scores to one UC campus, your scores will be distributed to all UC campuses. The most likelyreason your target college canââ¬â¢t find your SATscore report is that you picked the wrong school's name on the form.If you registered for the four free reports, check your own score report to confirm that the collegesyou put in are correct. If you ordered reports through the College Board website, log in to your account to double-check the colleges you selected. A good rule of thumb is to wait three weeks after you send your SAT scores to check whether they've been received.Usually, this info is available on the collegeââ¬â¢s application site, but in some cases colleges will contact you to let you know which application materials aren't in your file yet. If you get a notice from the college that your scores are missing, donââ¬â¢t panic: often, it can take up to a few weeks for received application materials to be logged.Chances are, the school has indeed received your scores but simply hasnââ¬â¢t filed them yet. Feel free to call the admissions office and calmly and respectfully ask them to check whether your SAT scores have arrived or not. If your SAT scores don't turn up- either because they got lost in the mail, were somehow electronically derailed, or were simply misfiled- you can always resend your scores by ordering new ones throughthe College Board website. How to Make Blueprint Paper Blueprint paper is a specially-coated paper that turns blue where it is exposed to light, while areas kept in the dark remain white. Blueprints were one of the first ways to make copies of plans or drawings. Heres how to make blueprint paper yourself. Blueprint Paper Materials 15 mL of 10% potassium hexacyanoferrate(III) (potassium ferricyanide)15 mL of 10% iron(III) ammonium citrate solutionPetri dishWhitepaperTongs or small paintbrushSmall opaque object (e.g., coin, leaf, key) Make Blueprint Paper In a very dim room or in the dark: pour the potassium ferricyanide and iron(III) ammonium citrate solutions together into a petri dish. Stir the solution to mix it.Use tongs to drag a sheet of paper across the top of the mixture or else paint the solution onto the paper using a paintbrush.Allow the sheet of blueprint paper to dry, coated side up, in the dark. To keep the paper from being exposed to light and to keep it flat as it dries, it may help to set the wet sheet of paper on a larger piece of cardboard and cover it with another piece of cardboard.When you are ready to capture the image, uncover the top of the paper and overlay an ink drawing on clear plastic or tracing paper or else simply set an opaque object on the blueprint paper, such as a coin or key.Now expose the blueprint paper to direct sunlight. Remember: for this to work the paper must have remained in the dark until this point! If its windy you may need to weigh down the paper to keep the object in place.Allow the p aper to develop in the sunlight for about 20 minutes, then cover the paper and return to the darkened room. Thoroughly rinse the blueprint paper under cold running water. Its fine to have the lights on. If you do not rinse away any unreacted chemicals, the paper will darken over time and ruin the image. However, if all the excess chemicals are rinsed away, youll be left with a permanent colorfast image of your object or design.Allow the paper to dry. Cleanup and Safety The materials for making a blueprint (cyanotype) paper are safe to work with, but its a good idea to wear gloves since youll be working in the dark and might otherwise cyanotype your hands (turn them temporarily blue). Also, dont drink the chemicals. They are not particularly toxic, but they are not food. Wash your hands when you are done with this project.

Fiscal policy refers to a situation whereby the government restores equilibrium in the economy by making changes to taxes or government expenditure on public goods and services (Smullen & Hand 2005). When there is under-utilisation of capacity, the government can increase capacity utilisation by reducing taxes (that is through a reduction in tax rates or tax base) or by increasing spending on public goods and services as well as subsidising the production of certain goods and services (Smullen & Hand 2005; Visser 2004:43). Fiscal policy aimed at increasing money supply is referred to as easy fiscal policy (Smullen & Hand 2005). On the other hand, when there is over-utilisation of capacity, the government either increases taxes (through and increase in tax rates or tax bases) or reduces spending on public goods and services (Black 2002). It also reduces subsidies and transfer payments. This type of fiscal policy is referred to as tight fiscal policy (Black 2002). ... Fiscal dominance occurs when government can determine the stock of debt, and the path of total expenditures and taxation (Frantiani & Spinelli 2001: 255). Under these conditions, the government can influence the inflation rate, the future flow of monetary base by raising the permanent level of expenditures without at the same time raising taxes. Fiscal dominance is therefore a scenario whereby monetary policy is driven by fiscal policy 1.3 Monetary Policy Monetary policy is the means by which the Central Bank regulates the economy through changes in the supply of money. This can be done by either printing more money or withdrawing money from the economy through the sale of bonds or through the altering of short-term interest rates. There are two types of monetary policies including easy and tight monetary policy. Tight monetary policy is geared towards reducing the amount of money in supply while expansionary monetary policy leads to an increase in the supply of money. Inna (2006) notes that easy monetary policy leads to a fall in the real interest rate thus lowering the cost of capital causing an increase in investment spending, which increases aggregate demand, and, ultimately, output. According to Leviathan (2003:1), Monetary dominance refers to a situation whereby fiscal policy is influenced by monetary policy. Liviatan states, that: "the benchmark definition of monetary dominance is that the fiscal policy has to accommodate any monetary policy". This implies that fiscal policy must ensure that the liquidity of the government is maintained for any monetary policy.
